2025 Photo Submissions Welcome!
The upcoming AAG Annual Meeting will once again include the Cultural Geography Specialty Group’s Photo Competition. All registered attendees, virtual or in-person, are invited to contribute a photograph of their own. We do not limit participation only to members of the CGSG.
The Photography Competition has been part of CGSG programming since the 2009 meeting in Las Vegas. Over the past twelve years, the exhibit has showcased photographs with short descriptive captions both from fieldwork and also more everyday encounters with cultural landscapes. Unique at the conference, the annual exhibit provides geographers with an opportunity to share images and stories that perhaps receive less attention in their paper presentations or panel comments.
To participate in this year’s competition please submit a high quality (approximately 300 dpi) digital copy of your photograph (limit of 1) with a caption (limit of 250 words) to this form by 11:59 PM Pacific Time (PT) on February 28, 2025. The photographs may be in either color or black & white, and must have been taken by the person submitting to the competition. The top photograph – as judged by a panel – will be published in Material Culture: The Journal of the International Society for Landscape, Place, and Material Culture. Thus photos submitted for this competition should not be considered for publication in a journal and cannot already be formally published elsewhere.
