Remembering the Black Loyalists

I took this photo in July 2018 during a visit to Halifax, Nova Scotia. I was in the Ross-Thomson House Museum in Shelburne, NS. As I stood and looked out of the window at the water, I thought of the many Black Loyalists who newly arrived in Shelburne in the 1700s, after fighting for the British to gain their freedom and the opportunity to own their own land. How were they feeling? Hopeful? Scared? Uncertain? I hope that when they looked out at the water that they felt optimistic about their future.
